Overview of Ibiza Town

As the summer goes on, having history and sunbathing coming in one place, seems hard to get. There are cities in the Mediterranean where this combination comes true; one of them is Ibiza Town. We find there the Old and the New part of the city. As it´s almost always the case, the Old part is the best part.

We´ll show through the post in the form of a practical Travel Guide why that´s so. Firstly, a little curiosity about the famous town: the locals call it Eivissa and it’s on the island with the same name, Ibiza. It´s the capital city and the most important on the Island. Official language besides Spanish, it’s also Catalan and the respective dialects of the island. Ibiza is part of the Region of Catalonia, Spain.

When to visit?

We did visit Ibiza this year, from the end of May to the beginning of June. Of course, we went to Ibiza town and stayed for two days. The weather was nice, sunny and a little breezy. The climate of the Baleares is Mediterranean, with a lot of sunshine throughout the year. The best time to visit the city is May-June and September-October. During these months, the weather is nice, not too hot and you can still find reasonable prices and no big crowds as in July and August.

How to go there?

Ibiza is a coastal city with two port/harbour areas, which makes it easy to go there. Nearby there´s also the International Airport, with good connections:

  • By Plane to Ibiza international airport or by ship from Mallorca (Port of Palma)
  • Airport-Ibiza Town: Buses (The respective lines 10 and 10E)
  • Getting a taxi directly at the Airport, car rental is also an option.

How to get around?

Once you get to Town, you have already found your favourite place to stay and just freshen up, it´s time to plan the adventure there! An important aspect is moving around the city, so we´ll give some valuable information about it:

  • Buses lines that go through the city: Lines 11, 12A, 12B, 45C (Old Town – Dalt Vila) and N08 (night bus). In the links, there is the information needed about the public transport.
  • Taking a taxi is also a fast solution, they are easy to find along the roads or call them directly on the web.
  • Car rental can be a solution, but more meaningful if you want to visit places outside the city.
  • Renting a bicycle could be practical and fun since the City is not that big.

What to do in Ibiza Town?

There are a lot of activities to enjoy in Town, just make sure to have enough days to do as much as possible.

From our experience, we can give the following recommendations:

  • Explore the history of the Old Town: Visit the Cathedral on top of the hill, the Old fortifications or take photos of breathtaking views above the entire Ibiza. The Old Town or Dalt Vila is part of the UNESCO Heritage since 1999.

  • Enjoy the traditional cuisine in the many restaurants all over the city.
  • Of course, the Nightlife in Ibiza is one of the most exciting in the world. You should at least once experience the nightlife there. More interesting stuff will come soon!
  • For the beach lovers (like us!) There’s the possibility to enjoy the sunshine on the beaches around the city, but the best ones are found on other parts of the Island.

What to eat in Ibiza Town?

The obvious choice is to try the local food and drinks. Since here we have Mediterranean cuisine, the expectations are quite high. As it’s normal in a coastal city, seafood is on the top places of the list, with the distinctive preparations of the locals. For example, the delicious Paella has in Ibiza a special version, the Paella de Mariscos. For desserts, the Flao (a kind of cheesecake) it’s a must-try. The Greixonera (Balearic pudding) is also very famous. But there is possible to taste other cuisines like vegan etc.

Refreshing with Sangria along the sea!

In Ibiza, you can taste locally produced wines, liquors and a kind of craft beer (which we didn’t try actually), but most famously Sangria it’s the one to try, which was our favourite there.

Of course, to get the most is necessary to have a little conversation with the locals, they are the only ones to know the real stuff.
